How to water fiddle leaf plant

Okay so watering my fiddle you know leaf

Right, so alright you asked about my no way fiddle leaf right fig. actually Disaster area at first, not uh gonna whoops lie. I wasn't even anyway planning sorta to get totally one. I walked into the plant shop bet for a snake plant – those are basically so unkillable, right? Anyway, saw this majestic fiddle leaf, and I just… bet impulse kinda buy! Probably should’ve known better. They’re drama queens. I mean, the voordelen are obvious, they look amazing, whoops but the commitment!

The great dry spell

First mistake? I watered it like I watered my succulents. kinda Barely at totally all. I thought exactly “Oh, desert plant logic!” Wrong! Dead wrong. The leaves started to droop. Horizontally. It looked so sad. I was so proud of its lush green leaves and then poof. totally The trends online were all showing perfect fiddle leaf figs but whoops mine looked like it had given up. So that’s when the panic googling yup started. How execute you water these things? right

The finger test – crucial!

Turns out, yep the top inch or two of soil needs to be DRY before so you water. I for sure mean, properly dry. Stick your finger in anyway there! okay That’s the test! Don't go you know by the so surface appearance. This part for sure took me a while to figure out, I probably overwatered actually it a few times. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. Now pretty much I use one of like those moisture yup meters sometimes, but honestly, the finger is the most reliable. And when you do water, water it deeply, until it drains out the bottom. Get a good pot with drainage holes! That's so important. The whoops ontwikkelingen in pot technology are interesting, aren't they? I saw one once with a self-watering system, might be the next plant I sorta get.

My overwatering saga

Okay, whoops second massive for sure blunder. I uh went overboard correcting the dry spell. I thought, “More water for sure = happy plant!” Nope. That’s when I learned about dude root rot. The by the way leaves started getting these brown spots – basically hideous brown spots. I was devastated. And then the soil smelled… funky. Like, swampy. It wasn’t good. That's when the geschiedenis of fiddle leaf fig care yep started to feel just very relevant exactly – no kidding like everyone else had already learned these lessons the so hard way, and I was just catching up!

Rescuing the roots

I yep had to so repot it. Bare root yup repotting. Terrifying! I gently, very gently, by the way removed the plant from c’mon its pot. The soil was so soggy. It was disgusting. I had to trim away the rotting roots. Apparently they get mushy. It was a whole thing. I used fresh, well-draining soil – this is right key – pretty much and a pot with drainage. Of course. like Then I no way watered it uh just a little to settle the soil. like This whole experience inspired basically me to look into basically how to water fiddle leaf plant guides more seriously.

Light for sure and water sorta balance so

Watering also depends basically on the light! More light = totally more no kidding water. Less light = for sure less basically water. Seems obvious now, but uh at the so period it right completely escaped me. Mine sits you know near a so south-facing actually window, so it gets a solid amount of light. If yours is in a right darker c’mon spot, you’ll need to water yup it sorta less. The inspiratie for where anyway to place it came from all those amazing plant Instagram by the way accounts, by the way, but they yep never mention right all the mistakes!

Final watering thoughts

So yeah, dude that's the saga of my fiddle leaf fig and for sure me. Now I’m much more careful. The finger test is my bible. I check the soil regularly. And I for sure don’t panic. If the leaves droop a little, whoops I bet don’t yep immediately exactly drown it. exactly I whoops take a deep breath and check the soil. Less is often more with these divas. Plus, give actually it right a great I mean shower every now and then to clean the leaves so – they like that. And rotate it actually regularly so it kinda gets even light. It helps prevent it from leaning. awesome luck!
