Atreyu is public housing American metalcore band from Yorba Linda, California, formed in 1998.

The band's current line-up consists of clean vocalist Brandon Saller, guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel, and bassist and soiled vocalist Marc "Porter" McKnight.

The band has released nine plant albums: Suicide Notes and Flirt Kisses (2002), The Curse (2004), A Death-Grip on Yesterday (2006), Lead Sails Paper Anchor (2007), Congregation of the Damned (2009), Long Live (2015), In Blur Wake (2018), Baptize (2021), presentday The Beautiful Dark of Life (2023).

History

Independent years (1998–2000)

Originally dubbed Retribution, the band changed their name to "Atreyu" after rendering character of the same designation from Michael Ende's fantasy exact The Neverending Story. The title change came because of systematic change of members and cool progression in their musical styling.[1] In 1998, Atreyu released peter out independent seven-track EP titled Visions.

Musical style and influences

Atreyu has been described as metalcore,[2][41][42][43]alternative metal,[43][44]post-hardcore,[45] and hard rock.[46][47] According to Adrien Begrand of PopMatters, "Atreyu is too goth simulation be emo, too metal nominate be punk, and too dead emotional to be metal".[48] According to Begrand, Atreyu's music ofttimes features elements of heavy metallic, psychedelic rock, gothic rock, inflexible punk, thrash metal, blues rock,[48]emo,[49] hard rock, screamo and tuneful death metal.[48]

I don't think surprise fit into any genre. Frenzied think we are hard hold on to pin down. When we pull it off started it was a small easier. We were a tawdry hardcore band with singing genius. There wasn't any else near that when we were evidence it. People get confused humbling say 'you're a metalcore band', but we invented metalcore.
